João Pena Monteiro womenswear collection is aimed at the modern independent woman that likes to stand out for their sense of fashion and style with an eye for innovation in design. The collection draws inspiration from strong, practical and naturally stylish women, such as Frida Kahlo, Coco Chanel, Imperator Furiosa (Mad Max), Leeloo (Fifth Element), Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games). The collection is made up of six outfits, each one with a personal story. Taking Post Apocalyptic movies such as Mad Max with its rich military details, bold colours, draping and silhouettes. Along side with great inspiration from the Nepalese Ghurkas, their uniforms and acessories that these brave warriors went to battle with. It is this that has inspired Monteiro to introduce bold and colourful design, laser cutting and a mix of different fabrics and embellishment using sequins on cottons, print and a burning effect on materials to reflect this. The result is colourful pieces ranging from catsuits to separates and over sized bags.
